Sterilux is a patented, light-activated surface treatment that uses quantum resonance photocatalysis to continuously destroy pathogens in the air and on surfaces.

We license this technology to manufacturers who build it into their products — and we stand behind it with our Sterilux Care service that monitors the sterilization performance over time.

How to Test Sterilux

See It. Measure It. Believe It.

Whether you're a lab technician or a curious homeowner, testing Sterilux is straightforward and revealing. Explore professional-grade methods or try simple side-by-side demos—Sterilux stands up to scrutiny at every level.

1. Laboratory Testing

Independent and under real-world conditions

Partner with certified microbiological laboratories to measure airborne and surface microbial reduction. Labs use agar plate sampling, ATP bioluminescence, or CFU counts before and after Sterilux exposure to quantify results with scientific precision.

2. Luminometer Testing

ATP Testing to Quantify microbial load

Devices like the Kikkoman Lumitester™ and EnSURE™  by Hygiena allow rapid surface hygiene measurement. Swab a surface before and after Sterilux™ exposure to detect the drop in biological activity—visible in just minutes.

Independent laboratory testing confirms that the Kikkoman A3 technology provides detection of residues at levels much lower than other tests on the market. Using residue from many different foods, laboratory testing proved that Kikkoman A3 technology produced a test result (relative light units – RLU) an order of magnitude or higher than competitive products. In many of the foods tested, Kikkoman A3 technology showed a strong presence of residue while the competitive products produced test results below typical action levels, showing that Kikkoman A3 can reduce the risks from false negative results.

3. D.I.Y. Fruit Test

A simple fruit test can reveal a powerful difference

How to Perform the Fruit Test:

  1. Place two similar fruits—like strawberries or tomatoes—in similar containers.
  2. Expose one to Sterilux light, and the other to normal light.
  3. Over several days, you’ll observe visibly reduced mold and decay on the fruit under Sterilux.

Please note: environmental factors such as airflow, temperature, humidity, and the ripeness of the fruit can affect your results. While the Sterilux effect is real, small variations in setup can lead to inconsistent and inaccurate outcomes in DIY settings.

Safety Reminder: Use proper ventilation. Never consume spoiled meat. Dispose of samples safely.

4. D.I.Y. Smell Test

Rotting Pork vs Sterilux

Smell is one of the most noticeable indicators of microbial activity. This simple test lets you experience Sterilux’s impact firsthand.

How to Perform the Smell Test:

  1. Take two equal portions of raw pork and place each in separate, breathable containers.

  2. Place one under Sterilux lighting, and the other under standard lighting.

  3. Let both sit undisturbed for several days until spoilage begins.

  4. Carefully compare the odors—pork exposed to Sterilux will smell noticeably less foul.

Note: This is a basic sensory demonstration intended for personal observation only. Environmental conditions such as airflow, humidity, and temperature can affect results. For scientifically validated data, professional laboratory testing is always more accurate and reliable.
